Villa blanco: ‘We are a lot like this’: Chilean villagers react to loss of land
Villas Blancas are dotted around the capital, Santiago, in the country’s southern mountains, where a community of farmers has for decades been cultivating the land and cultivating a reputation for its produce.
Now, the local community is struggling to maintain its presence amid the rising demand for fresh food in Chile.
Villas blanco is a popular tourist destination for tourists and locals alike.
For the past 15 years, the community has cultivated a variety of crops including grapes, grapeseed and potatoes.
But now, a new crop of potatoes is in the market, and villagers are struggling to secure enough to keep the produce growing.
